Everyone has heard of Golden Hour, the time just before the sun starts sinking below the horizon. This light is some of the best. It's warm and dramatic and we strongly suggest all engagement sessions take place during this time of day. With the days getting shorter and the season getting much, much busier it is necessary to squeeze every last drop of light out of the day. For Christine and Tyler's session we scheduled theirs a little bit later during twilight. The photos came out great and it was refreshing to work with a different quality of light.
Twilight is the fleeting time where the sky is still light but the sun has started its decent below the horizon. The sun's light becomes scattered across the sky, and reflects down onto the subject. We had Christine and Tyler face the sun's direction for their photos and you can't deny the softness and the gentle glow of the light. As the sun gets lower and lower the light becomes even better right up until dark.
There are many parts of a sunset. There's dramatic Golden Hour the hour before the sun goes below the horizon, there is soft and delicate twilight where everything turns pink and purple. There is even the mysterious and dark Blue Hour, when the sun is at its lowest but is still lighting up the sky just a tad. Each part lends its own feel to photos and each are worth experimenting with. Christine and Tyler's twilight shoot was beautiful and definitely worth breaking out of the routine of Golden Hour. I have a feeling we might start recommending a few more twilight sessions in the future...
