As a wedding photographer, I have had the privilege of witnessing countless beautiful moments of love. Even still, the surprise proposals always stand out. Saturday's engagement at UVA was no exception --least of all because of the weather! On the day of the proposal, the weather seemed to conspire against Joe's plans. Rain fell relentlessly for most of the early afternoon. Thankfully UVA has lots of covered walkways and overhangs and armed with my clear bubble umbrella I wasn't too stressed. UVA is probably one of the few places around that you can still take great photos even in the rain.
Undeterred by the challenging weather, Joe forged ahead with his carefully laid-out plans. The proposal was set to take place after a sports game, which worked well to add to the surprise. After the proposal was nearly spoiled earlier that week, Joe asked for a last minute change of plans and I was happy to roll with it. I knew the payoff from pulling off a true surprise would be well worth it!
After the game, the couple walked hand in hand through campus and the iconic Rotunda provided the perfect backdrop. It was difficult to be stealthy and hide as they approached, but once Joe went down on one knee the ruse was up and I was able to run out and capture the moment.
